I’m starting a newsletter. It’s called “The Musician’s Diet.”

DIET – di·et /ˈdʌɪət/

habitual nourishment | something experienced repeatedly | way of living

From Merriam Webster . com

The word diet first appeared in English in the 13th century. Its original meaning was the same as in modern English, “habitually taken food and drink.” But diet was used in another sense too in the Middle and early modern English periods to mean “way of living.” This is, in fact, the original meaning of diet’s Greek ancestor diaita, which is derived from the verb diaitasthan, meaning “to lead one’s life.” In Greek, diaita, had already come to be used more specifically for a way of living prescribed by a physician, a diet, or other regimen.

I try, as much as possible, to base my life’s choices on what will be most beneficial, most “nourishing” for my (future) self as a whole, much in line with the above definition. Therefore I choose to regard “diet” as: that which I allow into my life.

This can both reflect nutritional -food- choices (which most people tend to think about when considering diet) as well as information, actions, regimens, rituals, habits, principles, values, paradigms, beliefs, tools and more.

I regard my “diet” therefore as a holistic, synergetic whole – feeding both body and mind – to help me grow.

This newsletter aims to be a digest of those things. Selected bites of variable sorts that I have found helpful, inspirational, educational, valuable and / or remarkable – and therefore hope they can be beneficial to you too.

Optional “categories”

Tell me what you’d like

My idea (and goal) for MD (sounds fancy eh!? :)) is to make it a weekly collection of 4-6 subjects from varying categories.

Although I plan to mix and match a bit each week, I’ve listed my current “optional” categories below for you guys to see what you’d like.

I hope you’ll help me decide by voting – leaving a comment indicating what you think would be the 5 most interesting categories.

I’ll take that into account when deciding what to focus my energy on. Who knows, maybe it will eventually grow into a fixed set.

  • Quote of the week (or lyric snippet)
  • Noteworthy fact of the week (random)
  • Music Theory Nugget
  • Chord Progression (Of The Week)
  • LOTW (lick of the week) / ROTW (riff of the week)
  • CoutCam | Loop / VOTW (vamp) / GOTW (groove) / Cover
  • “Piano-wisdom” nugget (study & -self-improvement tip/blogpost)
  • WILT (what I’m listening to)
  • Teachers’ Tip (Tip for Teachers / Creatives / Professionals)
  • Food / Nutrition / Health Tip
  • What I’m reading / Book tip / Inspired by .. (recommended things to check out from others)
  • App / Tech I Like (creative or productivity)

Leave a comment with your top 5!

Cheers,

Coen
